GEORGINA DOREEN GREEN

(nee RODWAY)

It is with deep sadness and love we mourn the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Georgina Green of Winnipeg, Manitoba in September, at the age of 95.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Green, her parents, Frederick Richard Rodway and Jane (Jean) Stewart Palmer [Kerr], along with her older brother Frederick George Rodway.

Georgina is survived by her children, Robert (Kimberley), Cathy (Larry) and Debbie (Eric). Five grandchildren Cameron (Lindsay), Ashley, Sean (Andrea), Landon (Breanne) and Shelby (Chris). Nine great-grandchildren, Bentley, Finley, Harrison, Beckem, Mason, Henry, Tulla, Nolan and Wilder.

Georgina was born in Winnipeg in 1931. While in junior high school mom took part in a pen-pal exchange with other young teens in Sunderland, England during the Second World War, which continued into peace time. Her pen pal, Robert Green came to Canada in November 1951 for a visit. He ended up staying and the two fell in love and were married in November 1953.

In her younger years mom worked at Dun & Bradstreet, where she made several lifelong friends. Mom became a stay-at-home mother dedicating her life to her family. She did not go back to work until her children became young adults, after which she worked as an aide at Wellington Elementary School for a number of years until her retirement.

Besides having a cottage at Brererton Lake in the Whiteshell, where many happy times were had over the decades, mom and dad loved to travel. There were trips to England, California, Hawaii, Arizona, Alberta, British Columbia and a big family trip to Disney World in Florida that we all fondly remember.

Mom and Dad celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2013, receiving congratulations from Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Stephen Harper. In May 2019 Dad passed away after a brief illness.

Mom’s greatest joy was being around her family, friends and all her families’ pets. She had a special affinity towards dogs. She always had a kind word for anyone and was quick to bring them into her inner circle of love.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at both The Rosewood and especially River Park Gardens, where she resided in a memory care unit.

A service to honour Georgina’s life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue, on the 29th of September at 2:00 p.m.

If you wish, donations in lieu of flowers, to The Winnipeg Humane Society are welcome.

  • Very sorry to hear this sad news. I have very fond childhood memories of our neighbourhood where the Green family lived across the street from us. My deepest sympathy to all. - Posted by: Pat Myketa (Former neighbour) on: Sep 28, 2026

  • So sorry for your loss. Thinking of all of you. - Posted by: Rick & Tracy (Friends of Deb & Eric) on: Sep 28, 2026

  • I’m so very sad to hear of the loss of your mom. “Mrs. Green” was one of the nicest people in our old neighbourhood. Gayle and I often reminisce about our happy childhood living next door to your family. She had a great sense of humour and I remember her as smiling and laughing. My heart goes out to all of you. - Posted by: Sandy Walker (Family friend) on: Sep 27, 2026
