MELODY ELAINE AUBIN

(nee GALE)

1950 - 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Melody Elaine Aubin, who passed away peacefully at age 76, on September 28, 2026.

Melody was born on August 12, 1950, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and will be lovingly remembered by her husband André; her brother Mark (Lorraine); nephew Matthew (Lauren); niece Natalie; and great-nephew Gabriel. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Muriel and brothers, Arnold and Richard

Melody lived a life filled with love, and cherished memories. She will be remembered for her fiery and competitive spirit, sense of humour and her love of family and friends. She was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbour. Although she did not have children of her own, she was deeply loved by her extended family and by the many friends and neighbours whose lives she touched. She treasured the time spent with those close to her and created lasting memories with them.

At a very young age she was enrolled in figure skating and went on to represent the Ice Club of Greater Winnipeg during the 1960s. In 1965 she passed her sixth figure test marking her as one of the most proficient regional skaters emerging from the Manitoba competitive circuit during the mid-1960s. She went on to train under Gustave Lussi in Lake Placid, NY in the summer of 1966 as well as in Toronto under the guidance of Petra Burka. In 1967, Melody won triple gold in Figure, Free Dance and Freestyle competition.

After her competitive days were over, figure skating became her career and she went on to coach many aspiring young competitors. In the early 2000s she opened Strictly Power Skating School offering programs designed to maximize skating abilities for young hockey players. She retired in 2018. Skating was her passion and motivated her for her entire life.

Melody’s favorite activity was gardening. She loved working in the yard tending to her flower garden and water fountains. So passionate about the lawn that she mowed it twice a week ensuring that there was not a blade of grass out of place. Travel was also a big love of hers. From road trips by car and motorcycle, “Mellie” and André covered a good portion of Canada and the U.S. Add to that warm climate winter holidays, she was always looking forward to the next trip.

She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

A celebration of Melody's life will be held at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, in her memory.
