It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Dad (Opa) Hinrich.
He was predeceased by his parents, Diedrich and Adeline, all of his siblings in Germany, as well as his sister Anna who came over to Canada shortly after he did. He lost his loving wife, Adeline of 68 years six years ago.
He leaves to mourn his loving son Herman (Susan); grandchildren, Steve (Olena), Samantha (Kevin), great-grandchildren, Austin and Eva, Carter and Hayden. He will be missed by our dog Daisy who was always excited to jump up on his knee and give him many kisses. Also, all of his extended family, his niece Rosel (Tim) and their family, Tyler (Mandy) and Brody had a special place in his heart, as well as his great-niece Birgit (Christian) from his hometown, who came into his life ten years ago visiting him four times including these last two weeks.
Hinrich was born in Tarmstedt, Germany. After serving in the war he met the love of his life, Adeline who’s family was going to immigrate to Canada, so he decided to join them. They came across to Canada in May 1951 and married in October 1951. His son Herman was born in 1958. Their family grew when they welcomed their daughter in law Susan and then a few years later their grandkids, Steven and Samantha. Hinrich worked for Simmons as an upholsterer for over 25 years. His knowledge of geography, world events historical or current and sports was amazing, it was hard to ever ask a question that he wouldn’t have the answer for.
Over the years there were many family vacations in the trailer, travelling all over making special memories together. After retirement they went on trips to Cuba, Texas and even back to Germany.
His favourite times were with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he would do anything for, he was such a proud Opa.
He was a Jets fan through and through but also enjoying following his German soccer team Werder Bremen.
He spent just over two years at Devonshire House where the staff went above and beyond to cater to his unique requests. Many thanks to all of the staff there and to the Doctors, Nurses and aids at Concordia Hospital that gave him care and compassion in his last days.
Flowers are graciously declined. If you so wish you can make a donation to a charity of your choice.
As per his wishes no formal funeral will take place. A private celebration and interment will take place October 10, 2026.
We all loved you very much. We will miss you Opa.

I had the honour and privilege of meeting Hinrich, providing foot care. I enjoyed our conversations we had together. He shared times of his younger days during the war. And sharing times he had with his family that you knew he loved very very much. My condolences to all his family. May all your wonderful memories of him stay close at heart Rest in peace - Posted by: Kim St. Hilaire (Foot care) on: Oct 11, 2026
