EDYTHE BUTTERWORTH
Edythe, aged 89, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026. Born in Armstrong, Ontario, in 1937, Edythe lived a full and joyful life defined by family, friendship, community, and an unmistakably optimistic personality.
While raising her family in St. James, she was deeply involved with local schools, the Sturgeon Creek Community Centre and later volunteered at the Breast Center for Cancer Care. Edythe thrived in her successful career in Real Estate until she retired. Her vacations then included multiple road trips to Florida and grandchildren visits in Texas and Seattle. She brought warmth, energy, and enthusiasm wherever she went.
Known for her generous spirit, Edythe always had room at her table for one more guest. She maintained lifelong friendships, including close bonds with those she had known since her school days and from volunteering with the community club. She embraced life wholeheartedly, enjoying card games, visiting with friends, and hosting gatherings of every kind - from trivia and poker nights to lively murder-mystery parties. With Edythe, there was always something fun happening.
Edythe was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom, and her siblings, Joyce, Larry, and Muriel. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Colleen Willis (Dave Willis), grandchildren, Jocelyn, Jordan (Sam), and Kristin (Scott); her son, Jeff Butterworth (Orela Anderson), grandchildren, Brooke and Lauren (Zobair); her great-grandchildren, Sebby and Teddy, along with many close family members and good friends.
Edythe will be remembered for her hospitality, her contagious laughter, and the happiness she shared so freely. Her table, her home, and her heart were always open, and her vibrant presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the MS Society of Canada or to a nonprofit of your choice.
A casual celebration of Edythe’s life will be held at the Birchwood Inn 2520 Portage Avenue on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from noon to 2:00 pm.
