It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of El Bonnee. After a lengthy battle with many health issues including vascular dementia, he passed away peacefully with family by his side.
He is survived by his wife Carole of 60 years; children, Michelle (Lorne) and David (Guylaine); grandchildren, Zoeline and Zachary; his sisters, Julianna (Bernard) and Elenor; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and all extended family. He was predeceased by his father Karl and mother Phyles.
El was born in Winnipeg at St. Boniface Hospital. He grew up in South Fort Rouge on Rathgar Avenue and spoke of loving movies at the Park Theatre in his younger days. He lived most of his life in Winnipeg, plus 12 years of retirement with Carole in Rathwell, MB. He attended Lord Roberts School, Churchill High, and Grant Park High.
He worked as a barber for 40 years, the majority of which was at Steve’s Hairstyling on Stafford. El was never with a hair out of place.
His passions were spending time with family, getting together with friends, planting precise flower gardens, other yard work, home renovations, classic movies, music, vintage cars, and pets.
He loved a good buffet, Chinese food, and home cooked meals, especially featuring Polish dishes. His favourite burgers: VJ’s and A&W.
Always there for his family, he will be remembered for a life filled with dedication, generosity, and kindness.
A special thank you to the staff at Grace Hospital and Misericordia Health Centre who took great care in looking after our husband, dad, and poppa. You are angels, and true heroes.
