MARY FILIPOWICH

March 29, 1934 - September 10, 2026

With profound love and immense gratitude for a beautiful life well lived, Mary departed the confines of our world and began her journey to meet the Lord and be reunited with Dad on 09.10.2026, at Tuxedo Villa Extended Health Care, with family members at her bedside.

Mary leaves to mourn her loving son Robert, spouse Karen Daet and her extended family, sister Olga (Russel), numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was predeceased by her parents, William M. Picklyk, and Anne (Kantimere); brothers, Frank (Janet), Maurice (Janet), Peter; sister Helen (Ron); nephews, Kenny (Susan), husband Andy; her second son William. Karen’s extended family provided additional happiness and love from five boys, their significant others and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary was born March 29, 1934, and raised in Caleinto, MB. Mary was the eldest of the siblings and when old enough was there to help Anne (Baba) to care for her brothers and sisters on the farm at Caliento.

Once mother completed her schooling at Caliento, and despite stern warnings from her dad she decided to move to Winnipeg to find a job in hopes of, if possible, to provide a little extra money for the family back home.

Eventually she met up with dad, and they were married July 14, 1956, in Winnipeg. Mother found employment with Sears for much of her working career. Mom and dad settled in St. James on Rutland; the family later relocated to Linwood St in 1982. Dad passed away in August 2009, mother remained at the Linwood address until 2018. She then moved to the Kiwanis senior assisted living apartment.

She also did a lot of voluntary work for Elections Canada, raising money for charity events such as, MS walks, Kidney Foundation, Cancer Care. Hobbies she enjoyed included bowling, cycling, dancing, playing cards, gardening at home and many trips to West Hawk Lake where she did more gardening, boating, fishing, berry picking, miniature golf to name a few.

Mothers’ health issues became a concern in 2024/25 after fall injuring her left hip which required surgery to repair. She recovered well from the follow-up therapy and learned to manage her with her new daily challenges. As fate would have it, she then had an incident concerning her right hip in early 2026. She was moved thru the medical system starting with the Grace, transferred to Seven Oaks and moved to Tuxedo Villa Extended Health Care. Mother came to rest as a result oof Kidney failure stemming from complications with COPD.
