LEWIS GERSHMAN

Lewis Gershman passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, on September 14, 1942, to Bella and Joseph Gershman.

He is survived by his wife and partner, Val Gorin; and his children, Jonathon (Linda), Ricki, Darryl (Jaqueline), and Corey. Lewis was the proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Ezra, Gavriel, Carter, Isabella, and Silas.

A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Lewis earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1967. He began his career working in the family business, Gershman Produce, where he developed a keen business acumen that would later lead him to establish his own trucking company, Gershman Transport. This entrepreneurial venture was not only a testament to his business prowess, but also a cherished family endeavor that he proudly ran alongside his sons.

Lewis had a larger-than-life personality. He believed that rules were obstacles to overcome not follow. He had a generous spirit that touched many, whether it was spending hours in the boat teaching others to water ski or helping a friend in need.

His passion for cars, a love that began in his youth as a drag racer, was a legacy he passed on to his son and grandson. Lewis was a man of many interests, from his youthful days of water skiing and snowmobiling at his beloved cabin at Gull Lake, to his commitment to a weekly basketball game at the YMHA. In the year 2000, Lewis embraced the sunny vistas of Florida, where he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often seen boating and basking in the warmth of the sun.

Lewis was laid to rest in Boca Raton, Florida. In keeping with his generous spirit, the family kindly suggests that donations be made in his memory to CancerCare Manitoba.

May his memory be a blessing.

  • Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Greg Gershman (Cousin) on: Oct 10, 2026

  • I was saddened to learn that Lewis had passed away. As children we were brought up like brothers rather than cousins. Both his parents worked full time in their produce business. We lived within a block of each other and my mother watched over us. We were inseparable going to Winnipeg Beach every summer and sleeping at each others house every weekend. Unfortunately as we grew older our lives took us in different directions. My condolences to Val, Ricki, Jonathan, Darryl and Corey. May his memory be blessing. • Dear Val, Jonathan, Ricki, Darryl and Corey, My heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dear husband and father Lewis Gershman. As you already know, he was a 'bigger than life' person' who was always there to give a helping hand to anyone in need without being asked. Even though over the years we lived thousands of miles apart, we were always close and definitely we were politically on the same page. I loved him. I know my family joins me in saying he'll be greatly missed. May his Memory be a Blessing Love always Sharon Rubinstein Renรฉe and Jeremy Cammy and family Candice and David Wasserstein and family - Posted by: Sharon Rubinstein (Cousins) on: Oct 10, 2026

  • My Condolences to all the family. He was one of a kind. Of all the clients I had he was one of the toughest but one that I always enjoyed being with and he certainly appreciated a job well done. George Hucul. - Posted by: George Hucul (Friend) on: Oct 10, 2026

  • My sincere Condolences to Jonathon, Ricki, Darryl, Corey and the entire Gershman family. I was saddened to see Mr. G's name here this morning. Many wonderful memories hanging at the family cottage in Gull Lake. Lewis was a fun man to be around. We spend almost every day water skiing, riding dirt bikes and enjoying the summer. Was a wonderful time in my life something I shall never forget. Rest in peace Mr. G you were a really good man. - Posted by: Guy Cottrell (Highschool friend of Lewis's children) on: Oct 10, 2026
