JANET LYNN MCLAREN

January 23, 1961 - September 29, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Grandma, Janet Lynn McLaren (nee Stelnicki), who passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, at the age of 65 after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mom was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on January 23, 1961, to Brian and Joyce Stelnicki and spent her childhood growing up in the home her parents built on Simpson Avenue. She later went on to meet the love of her life, Scott McLaren, and they were married on September 24,1983. In December of 1991, they welcomed their daughter, Kaitlin, into the world. Mom spent most of her career working as a secretary for the River East Transcona School Division and retired from Miles Mac in 2017.

Mom was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves to mourn her passing her father Brian Stelnicki; daughter, Kaitlin Bialek (Ryan); her two precious grandchildren, Emma and Emmett Bialek; brother Fred Stelnicki (Theresa); niece Samantha Stelnicki (Chris Dixon); and brother-in-law Kent McLaren, as well as many cherished friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Scott McLaren on October 1, 2016, and her mother, Joyce Stelnicki, on August 21, 2025.

Mom had a heart full of love and a way of making the people around her feel cared for and important. Her greatest joy was her family, and she treasured every moment spent with the people she loved.

Mom shared an especially precious bond with her two Grandchildren, whom she spoiled every chance she could get. Her love, kindness, laughter, and unwavering presence will forever remain in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Mom leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories, memories that will be treasured and carried with us always. Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we are grateful for the years we were blessed to have with her and for the love she gave so freely.

She was not only our mom; she was our safe place, our biggest supporter, and someone we could always count on. Losing her has left a space in our lives that can never be filled.

Rest peacefully, Mom. You fought so hard, and you were loved more than words could ever express. We will miss you every day, love you forever, and carry you with us in everything we do.

Until we meet again, Mom.

Donations in Janet’s memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

A memorial service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow.
