It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ward Kenneth McPherson on August 22, 2026, at the age of 68.
Ward grew up in Winnipeg’s Crestview neighborhood and met Kelly Bell while they were both in high school. Though they attended different schools and came from opposite sides of the city, their paths crossed, beginning a relationship that would lead to 46 years of marriage.
Ward and Kelly married on June 24, 1978, and they built their life together on the East side of Winnipeg, where they raised their two sons, Michael and Trevor.
Ward worked as a bus operator with Winnipeg Transit from 1979 to 2007. After retiring, he worked part-time as a shuttle driver for Vickar Chevrolet until 2012, enjoying the opportunity to stay busy and on the road.
Retirement brought more time for Ward and Kelly to enjoy the things they loved together. They held season tickets for the Blue Bombers, were dedicated Jets fans, attended concerts, and spent many weekend evenings at the lounge, where Ward enjoyed playing VLTs.
Ward loved the outdoors, and when the boys were young, summers were spent camping in the family trailer at Hecla, Birds Hill, and in later years, at Spruce Sands with Kelly’s parents George and Audrey. Exploring trails at provincial parks, finding fossils at the quarry in Hecla, biking, campground fires, and teaching his sons to fish at the Gull Harbour Marina and Hecla Village docks are all very special memories.
Ward is lovingly remembered by his sons, Michael (Jennifer) and Trevor; his grandchildren, Mia, Benjamin, and Ellie; his brother Andy (Donna); his sister Christine (Ross). He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kelly, who passed away in 2024, his parents, Kenneth and Marianne (2021), and daughter-in-law Catherine (2024).
A joint interment for Ward and his beloved wife, Kelly, will take place on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, where they will be laid to rest together. A reception for family and friends will follow.
