BONITA (BONNIE) KATHLEEN BERNHARDT
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Bonnie passed away at Calvary Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 76.
She is survived by her sister Gina Giesbrecht; daughter Jennifer (Norman), son Timothy (Kendra); stepdaughters Cathy and Lisa, stepson Craig; grandsons Joseph, Matthew, Joshua, Robert, and Justin; and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Catherine "Kay" Giesbrecht in 1990 and 2016 respectively, and by her husband of 33 years, Gordon Bernhardt in 2020.
Bonnie was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on December 5, 1949. She worked at the Canadian Pacific Railway, where she met her late husband, Gord. They made their home in Tyndall Park, where they spent many happy years playing crib, raising birds, enjoying their pets, and gardening.
Bonnie loved travelling to sunny destinations, especially going on cruise ships and shopping. She also spent many summers at the cottage in Winnipeg Beach, where she decorated her outdoor space to reflect her love of Hawai'i and its tropical flowers. In winter, Bonnie enjoyed scary movies, books by Stephen King, and the Home Shopping Channel.
Cremation has taken place, and a service of remembrance will be held on November 6, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue.
The family is thankful for the wonderful staff at Calvary Place, for the attention they gave to Bonnie during her last five years in their care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society to support animals in need.

Bonnie and I met when we were 12. We lived across the hall from each other in our apartment block. We became fast friends and often times got into trouble together. We grew up.. got married.. had kids but always stayed in contact and spent many hours on the phone even though we lived in different parts of the country. I shall miss her dearly as she was for many years my best friend.. love you forever - Posted by: Karen Thurston (Reynolds) (Lifelong friend) on: Oct 10, 2026
