RICHARD SCOTT FULHAM

It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Scott Fulham on October 9, 2026.

Richard or Rick, as he is fondly remembered by a dear group of friends with whom he grew up in the Crestview area of Winnipeg, was born to Stanley and Audrey Fulham in Metz, France (where his father was stationed with the Canadian Armed Forces), in January of 1966.

Rick graduated from John Taylor Collegiate in 1984. To his own dismay, Rick publicly stated that he wanted to be a lawyer, and therefore the pressure was on to make good on that pronouncement. Fortunately, Rick succeeded in attaining his goal - a Bachelor of Arts (History) followed by a Bachelor of Laws in 1990, both from the University of Manitoba. Richard was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1991. Richard met his life partner, Karen (nee Schaen) at Robson Hall law school. A highlight of those years as law students was Richard taking a course over the summer in International Trade and Finance at King's College, London, UK and Karen joining him there and Richard having arranged a surprise tea with Lord Denning.

Richard enjoyed a very successful legal practice as Fulham Law Office, focused on residential real estate and real estate development and was one of the first of his profession to embrace the concept of Title Insurance, which is now a well-established practice of real estate transactions. In that regard, Richard was an official Agent of First Canadian Title for many years, a business relationship that led to friendships with other FCT agents across the country and with its corporate staff.

Richard made investments in many residential and some commercial properties throughout Winnipeg under TFG Lakewood Rentals Ltd. and he would encourage others to also invest in real estate at every opportunity. Richard was extremely hard working; in addition to his legal practice, he would routinely work evenings and weekends renovating rental properties. He had a keen artistic eye - he loved to restore properties to their former glory. People were often surprised to learn of his carpentry, plumbing, and drywall skills (to name a few). However, Richard's most treasured property, was the family farm in the beautiful Assiniboine Valley at St. Lazare, Manitoba. This was his place to build and create; it provided him with never-ending opportunities for new projects toward preserving and enhancing its varied landscapes.

Richard valued immensely the education gained from travel and as a university student travelled to Asia and Europe. Richard and Karen raised their children, Rachel and Jeffrey, in the Crestview area of Winnipeg. As a family they continued to travel extensively, making many cherished memories.

Rick was the consummate "car guy" he was very proud of his collection, however, his most treasured was his 1980 Trans Am that he had since his high school days. Richard and Karen enjoyed many years taking in NASCAR races- Atlanta, Las Vegas, Texas and Talladega. It was, therefore, no wonder that Richard and Jeff would take up kart racing and many friendships were made with members of the Manitoba Karting Association community.

We wish to thank all of the health care teams that provided their care and support to Richard over the past year. In particular, special thanks goes to Dr. Mark Forsyth of the Dauphin Medical Clinic; Russell Cancer Care Unit nurses Lisa and Danielle; to the Birtle Home Care Team of Sarah, Danielle, Michelle, and Jackie.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Russell Cancer Care Unit: Russell Health Centre, 426 Alexandra Avenue South, Bag Service #2, Russell, MB R0J 1W0; cheque made payable to Prairie Mountain Health and note Russell CancerCare Unit in memory of Richard Fulham or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of the Life of Richard Scott Fulham will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 at 12:30 pm, with a luncheon to follow, at the Assiniboia Downs, 3975 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg.

Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service, Russell were in care of arrangements.
