It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Josephine Blisner at her residence, Misericordia Place Care Home on October 7, 2026.
Mom was surrounded by her family where she was supported with prayers and adoration. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Lori (Dave), Kelly (Darrell), Brad (Shelley), Barry (Alayne), Boyd (Barb). Josephine’s husband Frank, predeceased her in 2018.
Mom and Dad were married for 64 years and spent their time together growing and guiding their five children, while enjoying life in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Josephine worked as a government switchboard operator for 25 years.
The Blisner home was a welcoming place for family and friends. Humour was ever present, creating a light and endearing mood for all who entered their home! We have many fond memories of Mom and Dad hosting celebrations that brought the family together from near and far. Their doors were always open for fabulous meals or a spontaneous visit with the Jets or Bomber game on in the background. Whether it was birthday celebrations by the pool or holiday gatherings, we would be there for good times and many laughs. Mom would spend days preparing for delicious dinners, accompanied by her famous baking. What would any family gathering be without Josephine and her camera! You couldn’t leave the room until Mom had all her group photos just perfect. How grateful we are to share those special books she created and their memories today.
Josephine enjoyed gardening and had the art perfected. Her yard was immaculate, full of carefully tended flowers. She loved dogs. Her two Yorkies were never far from her side. Mom kept meticulous handwritten records of events and milestones that dated back years.
By far, Josephine’s greatest passion was her family. She was completely dedicated to them, whatever their path in life. Mom spent countless hours supporting us in all our sports and activities. Each person who became part of the Blisner family was accepted unconditionally and fit right in. She adored her 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and the feeling was mutual.
Josephine was a spiritual person, dedicated to her Catholic faith. She continued to attend weekly services at Misericordia Place Care Home. Thank you to each and every worker who cared for Mom with kindness and compassion.
Josephine was a wonderful Mother. She consistently put her family’s needs and wants before her own and she was a model of strength and perseverance. The sacrifices Mom made over the years will live on in the values she passed on to her children. Josephine was a loyal, caring, gentle and generous soul. We will miss you always, but you remain in our thoughts, our hearts, and in the choices we make every day. Now you and Dad are together forever. Until we meet again, rest in peace Mom.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
