MIA PETERSON

(nee GABBRIELLI)

February 21, 1948 - October 15, 2026

Mia passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She leaves behind her loving husband, John; her sons, Mark and David (Adriana); and her beloved grandchildren, Sachin, Devin, Uma, and Jordan.

Mia will also be lovingly remembered by her brother, Carlo, and his wife, Lella, and their daughters, Cindy, Trisha, and Cristina; sister-in-law, Cathy Rutherford, and her daughters, Shannon and Patty; brother-in-law, Paul Peterson, and his wife, Lynn, and their children, Dean (Lori) and Jessie.

Mia immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1964 with her brother and sister-in-law. She made Winnipeg her home while continuing to embrace and cherish her Italian heritage. For many years, she worked alongside her husband at Windsor Park Medical Centre, building a life rooted in family, hard work, and community.

Mia especially treasured time spent with family and friends at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods, where many happy memories were made.

Known for her outspoken nature and loving personality, Mia brought her own unmistakable spirit to those around her. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As per Mia's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare in Mia's memory would be gratefully appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Mia and I first met when we were young mothers. She was intelligent, funny ,artistic, and irreverent and we went on to have a friendship that endured for more than forty years. She was, quite simply, a wonderful friend. During her illness Mia pushed forward as she always had with courage, a practical approach and a reflection of a life “well lived”. She will be missed. Our condolences to John, Mark ,David and their families Barbara &Gordon - Posted by: Barbara Levesque (Friend) on: Oct 25, 2026
