WILLIAM SZEPERTYCKI

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William Szepertycki on October 15, 2026, at Winnipeg’s Victoria Hospital at the age of 92.

Will was born on April 1, 1934, in Winnipeg to parents, Justyna Zajac Shepertycki and Ilya Shepertycki, immigrants to Canada from the Ternopil province of Ukraine (Strusiv and Slobidka Strusivska).

Will married Lillian Galayin 1962 and they embarked upon a happy married life together, establishing a home in St. James, connecting with friends and family, enjoying time with their dog Candy, serving Winnipeg residents in careers of service, travelling, and contributing to various Winnipeg associations and initiatives.

A colourful childhood in Winnipeg’s North End shaped Will’s love for stories and people. As a proud Ukrainian North Ender and a student at King Edward School and Sir Isaac Newton High School, Will returned often to the area throughout his life to care for his parents, to visit, to work and to remember.

Will was a long-time employee of Winnipeg (and then Manitoba) Hydro, serving Winnipeg homes with expertise and care for 42 years, until his retirement in1991.

Will is survived by his loving wife Lillian; his brother Theodore in Ottawa; his sister-in-law Violet; his nieces, Cathy/Kateryna (Yurij) and Maria (Alan); his nephews, Stephen (Lisa) and Michael; and his grandnephews and nieces, Anhelina, Halyna, Justyna, Liam, Mackenzie, Mikayla, Solomiya, and Zoriana.

Will is predeceased by his parents, his parents-in-law, brother Ron, sister-in-law Shirley, and brother-in-law Joe Lebedeff.

Many thank yous to the home care / healthcare aides that helped with William’s care in the home.

We will miss and remember husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather and great-uncle Will dearly. His love and stories will continue in the family and be shared with all.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Will would be gratefully accepted.

Vichnaya pamyat. Rest in peace.
