ALAN DUNCAN MCMILLAN

Alan died unexpectedly early on the morning of October 6, 2026. He is survived by his cherished partner of 29 years, Gwen McDonald; his children, Megan, Stuart, and their mother Linda McMillan; Gwen’s children, Wendy (Warren), Annie (Michael), and Duncan. He will also be dearly missed by many grandchildren, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Mabel and Gordon McMillan; his brother David and his son Duncan.

Alan devoted his working life to agriculture and was passionate about the land and nature. He lived with both a bold sense of adventure and quiet persistence in his work. In his later years, he loved his annual journey to Baja, Mexico, after finally realizing that the unending tasks of the farm did not have to consume his entire year.

We each knew Alan at different times and in different ways, and we treasure the immeasurable gifts he shared with us especially his sense of humor, his generosity and his loyalty.

Alan will be buried at the family plot at the Prospect Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at the Herman Prior Centre in Portage la Prairie from 2:00 to 4:00 on November 1, 2026.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We sure will miss having “Big Al’s” visits. He truly loved the land and the wildlife that shared it. He was one of the most interesting men we knew. We loved when he would share some of his memories and have a few laughs with us and our kids. He had a special bond with our son Parker. We hope they are sitting together around the kitchen table having one of their talks. We will miss him. Our deepest sympathy to Gwen, Megan, Stuart and family. - Posted by: Vaughn & Delinda Guy (Friend and neighbor) on: Oct 25, 2026
