It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gabriele DiMarco on October 18, 2026 at the Charleswood Care Centre in Winnipeg. Gabe lived a good full life, having celebrated his 91st birthday and 65th wedding anniversary with his beautiful wife Maria this past April. Gabe was a hard-working, devoted and loyal husband and a loving father to his two children and their spouses, Domenic (Bonnie) and Anna (Gary) and a caring grandfather to Nicolaas and Alexandra (Kadin).
He found tremendous joy in handing down traditions from his homeland, including gardening, wine-making, making something out of almost anything available (L’arte di arrangiarsi) to his children and grandchildren and anybody else who may be interested for that matter! He always had a love of travel, but he was very pragmatic in the early years and limited his travel to returning to visit family in Italy. More recently, Gabriele travelled throughout western Canada, Maui, and Las Vegas with his family and found tremendous joy in discovering beautiful new places, particularly those with lush forests, stunning mountain views and wide open shorelines.
Gabe never really slowed down, despite advancing age and multiple health problems, until this past year. It was difficult to witness his sudden loss of independence and his lack of mobility these last six months. Towards the end, he settled into his new reality with grace and dignity and his caregivers consistently described him as kind and loving, always ready with a hug. But they also shared that he continued to remain as fiercely independent as his cognitive and physical capacities would permit.
A funeral service will be celebrated at Thomson In The Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., on Thursday October 29, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. Condolences will be received beginning at 10:30 a.m.
