MARLYN RUTH ZASLOV

(MARLY BUCKWOLD)

You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known, and even that is an understatement.

- F. Scott Fitzgerald

Born in Dauphin, Manitoba, September 23, 1937, Marly's life was defined by friendship, adventure, creativity, and community.

A natural beauty, Marly's youthful spirit sparkled, and she possessed a true gift for making people feel seen. Her career began in Winnipeg's advertising and television world during the Mad Men era, where big, creative ideas flourished. It was with Variety Club Tent 58 Manitoba that Marly's greatest gifts of bringing people together, inspiring action, and making things happen shone brightest. "Mission Marly" was a trailblazer, rainmaker, and tireless champion for children in need. She produced Winnipeg's Variety telethons, helping raise millions of dollars, forging lifelong friendships, and sharing love far beyond her home province. An instinctive connector, Marly championed the arts, served as Executive Director of the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre, and founded Manitobans in BC, creating a community for fellow prairie transplants on the West Coast. She welcomed wandering souls, encouraged dreamers, championed underdogs, and made people feel they belonged. Friend, mentor, confidante, cheerleader, advocate, and chosen family to many, she helped people see possibilities for themselves they couldn't see on their own. Murray remained the great love of her life and she, forever, his muse. In his later years, Marly cared for him with compassion and grace, standing beside him until his passing in 2012. Marqueen lived as an ageless, ethereal flower child, entirely on her own empath terms.

Together again with her daughter, Anrea; husband, Murray; and parents, Percy, Goldie, and Charlie, she leaves behind her daughter, Shannon; her grandson, Ryan; Ryan's fiancé, Trisha; loving family, and friends near and far whose lives are richer because she was part of them.

The story is not over;

the ending is still ours.

- Gloria Steinem
