ROBERT KENNETH MASON
Robert Kenneth Mason was born October 11, 1940 in Mrs. Robertson’s home in Newdale, MB.
He is predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Nellie (Laming) Mason, his brother Fred, and brothers-in-law, Lloyd and Dennis. Bob is survived by his sisters, Molly, Ellen and Janet (Allan), sister-in-law Marilyn (Bill), nephew Trevor (Amanda) and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He attended school in Newdale and Basswood and received his Diploma of Agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1962. Bob started farming in 1959 with land rented and later purchased from his grandfather and his parents, eventually becoming Beenleigh Farm Ltd. Land was also purchased from neighbours over the years and he was able to be debt free by 2001. Not counting wasteland, he was proud to have farmed 1000 acres of the very good Newdale soils. Bob sold his farm in 2004 and moved to Monterey Estates in Brandon, where he enjoyed additional friendships and activities. As well as farming, Bob also managed seed plants in Newdale and Strathclair for two years over the winters, taught farm management courses in Eriksdale and Teulon in 1967 and 1968, and worked part time as a welder at Minion Industries in the early 70s. He was a member of the Manitoba North Dakota Zero-tillage association and was a founding member and past chairman of the Manitoba Zero-Till Research Association. He sat as a councilor for the RM of Harrison, and sat on boards for the Minnedosa Hospital and Minnedosa Credit Union. He was a member of the Basswood 4-H Beef club for eight years and a leader for 12.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed being active and participated in slow-pitch ball, downhill skiing, X-country skiing, hiking, photography, curling and walking. He qualified in the Manitoba Winter Games 55+ in 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002. He valued his friendships in the communities in which he lived and enjoyed his home until he could no longer stay. He will be missed.
There will be a social gathering to remember Bob in Monterey Estates Conference Room, Brandon, MB on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
