TERRY FREDERICK JOHN SMITH
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Terry, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, at the age of 89.
Terry will be lovingly remembered by Darlene, his wife of more than 61 years; his sons, Brad (Marieke) and Chris (Sarah); his grandsons, Parker and Gunner; extended family in Victoria; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernie in 1972 and Jean in 2002.
Terry spent most of his working life in sales, travelling throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Northwestern Ontario. His success earned him numerous awards including an amazing trip with Darlene to Europe - seven countries in 10 days!
Terry’s greatest joy was always his family. An avid NASCAR fan, especially of "The Man in Black", Terry cherished special days spent watching races with his sons and enjoying a game or two of pool together. He loved all the family pets and was the keeper of the extra treats.
Terry also had special talents and hobbies that kept him busy. He spent many hours in the yard, especially as chief mover of Darlene’s perennials every year. Home repairs and helping out his sons with their home projects was high on his list. Later in life, Terry discovered a love of reading and became a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Terry’s wishes, the family will gather privately to celebrate his life and share memories of a man who held a profoundly special place in their hearts.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Roche at the Assiniboine Clinic, the compassionate palliative care team, and the dedicated home care workers who provided such wonderful care and support.
Those wishing to honour Terry’s memory may donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society, an organization that reflects his deep love of animals.
Interment in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery.
