It is with heavy hearts, and a lot of love, that we share the passing of Jason Robert Noordman on October 22, 2026. Robin, his wife and partner of more than 27 years, will deeply miss him, and her familiar “hey, Jason” will always carry the sound of the constant check ins, affection, and love of their life together.
Jason and Robin met in 1999, while playing volleyball, thanks to an introduction by Jason’s uncle Bruce and auntie Barb. From that day on, they were inseparable, building a rich life together filled with laughter, travel, and the comforts of home. They chose each other, and she is endlessly grateful that they did. Jason was a true homebody, and took great pride in caring for their shared living space. Over the decades, they made it a shelter for twelve cats, including his special favourites, Claudia and Nutmeg.
Jason was competitive and even bedtime became a game of nightly PJ races to see if he or Robin could put on their pyjamas first. One notable evening, Jason spent five hours secretly wearing his PJs under his clothes so he could quickly remove the outer layer and secure his spot as the winner. Despite trying to best her at little things, Jason was Robin’s biggest supporter and her safe place. He cared for her with extraordinary devotion and always cheered her on in everything, but especially on her love of teaching kindergarten. Knowing the energy she spent on the exuberant five-year-olds, Jason sent Robin to school every day with a lunch he packed. Robin’s colleagues were envious of the care and teased her mercilessly.
Warm, generous, funny, and brilliant - that is how those who knew Jason described him. He had the biggest heart of anyone around him. He loved having fun, had a dry sense of humour, and a talent for teasing. If you were in his circle, he looked after you and probably teased you too. He shared a very special bond with his Grandma Mae, who held a particular place in his heart.
Jason became an air traffic controller in 2000, and spent 18 years with NAV Canada. Beyond work, his interests were wide-ranging. Gardening began with planting seeds and he was excited to watch things grow. He was an avid reader with a massive library and a home-built little library that he kept fully stocked. Words mattered to Jason; he was a devoted crossword and Scrabble player, and he was famous for his creative use of spicy words in family Scrabble games. He gifted his woodworking projects to family and friends far and wide, so chances are there’s a Jason original in your home. He had a soft spot for cars that needed restoring and a little extra love, which is a polite way of saying he bought lemons. He loved playing and watching soccer, and for many years enjoyed ski trips in February with his soccer mates. Hawaii held a special place in his and Robin’s hearts. They travelled there many times, even riding out a hurricane on one trip, but it never stopped their love of visiting the islands. Closer to home, as soon as the school year wrapped up in June, Sleepy Hollow at Lake of the Woods was where he and Robin went to relax and recharge together.
Jason is survived by his wife, Robin; mum Kathie; sister Kacee (Chris); uncles, Tom (Karen) and Bruce (Barb); aunts, Liz (Bruce) and Isabel (Gary); parents-in-law, Kristin and Dave; siblings-in-law, Geoff (Jill), Kevin (Susan), Jacquie (Scott), and Pauline (Darren); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandpa Bruce and grandma Mae, his niece Ellen, and his parents-in-law Dick and Rosalind.
Robin and Jason are deeply grateful to the family and friends who surrounded them with incredible support over the past few months. From visits, health care guidance, meals, cat-sitting, and countless acts of kindness, you showed us what love looks like. Thank you.
A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jason’s memory to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 2727 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0R2. Jason and his cats would approve.
