It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Carney-Yapps, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Sandra passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the age of 66.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband Bruce; sister Barbara; and father Harry. Sandra was predeceased by her mother Nell; and infant sister Susan.
Sandra was formally trained as a lawyer and successfully used those skills to eventually manage the appeals board at Manitoba Civil Service Commission, a position she held for many years until retiring in 2016. Sandra will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by the many friends she made during her lifetime.
Sandra was known for her love of animals. She always had pets – cats when she was younger, and a dog later in life; Toby will miss her dearly. Her animal friends were one of the things that brought her great joy.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital Cancer Care and, more recently, at Home Care and Palliative Care.
Cremation has taken place and per Sandra’s wishes, no formal service will be held.
If friends so desire, donations in Sandra’s memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or to another pet rescue of your choice, or to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
