It is with heavy hearts, but a lifetime of wonderful memories, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Elaine Murray, on October 22, 2026.
Although her given name was Geraldine Elaine Murray, she was always Elaine to her family and friends. She was a woman of strength, determination, laughter, and a little bit of stubbornness, with a wonderful gift for conversation, an unmistakable sense of humour, and an opinion on just about everything. She loved her family, cherished her friendships, and lived a life filled with experiences and memories that will remain with us forever.
Elaine was the daughter of Henrietta (2001) and Leland (Bud) Salkeld (1986). She grew up near Stonewall, Manitoba, with her brothers, Robert (2022), and Donald, who survives her.
Elaine and Ron were married in January 1962, in Mount Hope, Ontario. Their family quickly grew with the arrival of Delaine (2025) in March 1962, Michael in April 1963, and Robert in June 1964.
Elaine devoted her early years to raising their children, and later worked at Beacon Hill Lodge for approximately 23 years before retiring.
Elaine was a proud and loving grandmother to Mathew, Amanda, Melanie, and Kyle, and a treasured great-grandmother. She was also a special aunt to Robin (Jim), Jaret (Kim), Darren, and Michelle.
Elaine and Ron enjoyed more than 20 years of winters in Texas, made many wonderful friends, and loved travelling. Elaine was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Winnipeg, while Ron belonged to the Masonic Lodge and later the Khartum Shrine. She had a creative side, enjoying sewing, quilting, and ceramics and she never missed a good conversation or a night of bingo.
Elaine will be laid to rest with her beloved Ron, reunited again after a lifetime of love, hard work, and shared adventures. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in 2027, when family and friends will gather to share stories, raise a glass, and remember the remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
