Our beloved Mom / Gmaw, Joan, died aged 89 on Thursday, October 22, 2026, with family by her side.
Joan Marie Walter (Nissen) was born in 1937, in Standard, Alberta, to Helge "Ole" Nissen and Emily (Christensen). She and husband Art married in 1958, and settled in Winnipeg to raise four kids.
Energetic and creative, Joan possessed a boundless curiosity and empathy for others. She was always busy with work, family, gardening, and her art practice.
Joan will be missed by sons, Chris and Jim; daughter Lisa; daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Korey; grandkids, Max, Zak, Arien, Ambra, and Frank; and great-grandson Oliver; as well as step-siblings, Eric and Fay.
Joan was predeceased by Art; brother Norman; and son John.
A Celebration of Life will follow.
