MARY-LOU JONES

We are heartbroken to share that Mary-Louise Winona Jones (née Anton) passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026, at the age of 79. Mary-Lou was born on September 4, 1947, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Jim and Winona Anton. She was the youngest of four children and their only daughter.

Mary-Lou loved and cherished her family above all else. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Leigh Anne McDonald (Lowell); daughter-in-law, Erin Jones; her grandchildren, Adrian (Clare), Brendon (Kate), Lowell Jr. (Nicole), Connor (Rebecca), Addison, Brayden, and Dyllen; and her great-grandchildren, Lilly Anne, Ivan, Sloane, and Miller. She also leaves behind her brothers, David (Charlotte) and Terry (Linda).

Mary-Lou was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ivan Jones; her parents, Jim and Winona Anton; her brother, Jimmy; and her son, Paul.

Mary-Lou grew up in St. James, where she made many friends during her school years, several of whom remained lifelong friends. Some of her favourite stories were of her days participating in baton twirling and hurdle jumping, memories she continued to share over the years.

In 1967, Mary-Lou married Ivan Jones, and together they shared 54 wonderful years. Throughout their life together, they raised two children, lived in three provinces, and enjoyed many family vacations. Family camping trips held a special place in their hearts, creating treasured memories that would last a lifetime. These adventures also brought lasting friendships that remained an important part of their lives for many years.

Mary-Lou's creative spirit shone through her many hobbies. She later discovered a love of painting, enjoying many hours creating alongside her dear friend Linda. Her artistic creations now grace the homes of those she loved. Her talents for knitting and sewing brought warmth and comfort to family and friends. Each new baby in the family was welcomed with something lovingly handmade, whether a sweater, bib, or photo album—a special tradition that reflected the love she put into everything she did.

As a family, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us over the past four years, helping care for our dear Ar-Lou and spending precious time with her. Your kindness, compassion, and presence have meant more to us than words can express. We are especially grateful to the staff at Sluggett House for the compassionate care, patience, and kindness they showed Mary-Lou.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Winnipeg in the spring, with details to be shared on social media.

In honour of Mary-Lou, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine.
