Ruth Bock (née Sawatzky) passed away October 27, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.
Ruth was born 90 years ago in the small village of Gnadenthal, Manitoba to John and Margareta Sawatzky. She met and married the love of her life, John Bock, in 1957 and they were able to celebrate their 69th anniversary shortly before her passing.
She leaves behind her husband John, daughter Ruth Bock, son John (Maxine) Bock and daughter Elizabeth (Derek) Inglis as well as grandchildren Satu and Asherah Bock, Amalia (Aaron) Wiens, Sean (Katie) Inglis, and Rhys (Andrea) Inglis and great-grandchildren Ezra and Wesley Inglis. As well she leaves behind brothers Jake (Helen) Sawatzky, Peter (Anna) Sawatzky and sister Johanna (Norman) Braun and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was also very big into history. She wrote several family history books and was the go-to person to ask to see whether you were actually related to someone.
Mom greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She loved being a great-grandmother and was always willing to entertain. She also loved spending time with friends and her coffee group, and regularly visited shut-in friends and relatives.
Many thanks to the palliative care team at St. Boniface for their excellent care of mom. We really appreciate it.
Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, November 9, 2026, at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers donations to Camp Manitou (https://www.campmanitou.mb.ca) or Friends of the Mennonite Centre in Ukraine (https://www.mennonitecentre.ca/) are requested.
