Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICHOLAS SENKO Our dad left us to be with the Lord on December 11, 2004 at the Selkirk General Hospital. Dad was born in Gimli, MB on April 23, 1910 and spent most of his life farming in Meleb, MB. He was the oldest living pioneer of the community. After the passing of his wife, Mary, dad moved into the Maplewood Lodge in Fraserwood, where he lived for 13 years. For the past four years he has been a resident of the Betel Home in Selkirk. Gido had a great passion for Ukrainian music and loved playing his fiddle for family and friends. He leaves to mourn daughters, Jean Spulnick of Selkirk, Olga Lachuta of Petersfield and Linda Hall (Albert) of Selkirk; son David (Fleurette) of Vernon, BC; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Ciasko (Tony) of Toronto. Gido was predeceased by his wife Mary; parents, Harry and Mary; daughter Rose Van DeMeer; sons-in-law, Bernard Van DeMeer, Peter Spulnick and Alex Lachuta. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Meleb with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Interment will follow in the Meleb Cemetery. His pallbearers will be grandsons, Robert, Joey and George Spulnick and Roger, Richard and Randy Lachuta. The family would like to thank the staff at the Betel Home and Selkirk General Hospital for the care and compassion given to our dad and gido. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the B.V.M. Ukrainian Catholic Church, in care of K. Budniak, Box 27, Meleb, MB R0C 2C0. Vichnaya Pam'yat Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
