Fred was born on ary 10, 1941,Janu and will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Sally; and their son Fred Jr. (Jackie), Brittany, Dylan, Brayden; son Ron, Delaney; brother-in-law Vince (Colleen), children, Kelly (Peggy) and Shelby (Kobe), Anthony; sister-in-law Marlene (Lorne), children, Crystal (Tom), Stefan, Christien, Kiera, Chantel (Allen), Tristan, Aidan, Carlyn (Rick); and Rosemary (Murray), children, Marlene (Lorne), Kristopher, Evan; Charlene, Justin, godson Shane (Susan), Taylor and Morgan. Fred was predeceased by his parents and sister. Fred has always been a very loving husband to Sally and devoted father to his children and grandchildren. We will miss you every day for the rest of our lives. Over the past many years, Fred became a grandfather and was very proud of his grandchildren, Brittany, Dylan, Brayden and Delaney. In fact, Fred could be found at most events in which his grandchildren participated. Fred was a self-made man and business owner. Over the past 35 years he was involved with the Manitoba Trucking Association as a director and worked with various committees and with the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association, also as a director. As a business owner Fred believed in treating his employees and customers fairly and with respect. Fred always showed a sincere interest in doing the best he could for the companies he worked for, including Building Products and Concrete Supply and Kleysen Transport. They, in turn, were great supporters of Fred when needed. Through his business, Fred and Sally have come to enjoy lifelong friendships. Working and playing together was an additional benefit for them. Fred loved people and could strike up a conversation with a perfect stranger and soon find they had something or someone in common. While Fred had health problems recently, on his good days he was out and about, seeing friends for coffee or just visiting. There was no stopping Fred, even if he had just been in the hospital only days before. Fred had always been one to enjoy life to the fullest and loved to travel, from family trips in the early years to California, Florida, Hawaii and later, on annual extended vacations to Phoenix. His enjoyment outside of the family came from the family passion, auto racing, and in particular, sprint car racing, going to local sport team events, the Jets, the Moose, and Goldeye games, and golfing. His love of golf really came from the fellowship with his many golfing friends and social time he enjoyed after the game was over. They will miss him dearly. Fred had a broad sense of humour, always had a smile on his face, and enjoyed sharing jokes and stories in person and over the internet. Fred loved to hear and tell a good story. As a family, we wish to thank all of our friends for your support through the difficult times over the past number of years and for your care and compassion during this most recent mishap. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, nurses' aids and all of the staff on 5B at the St. Boniface General Hospital for the kindness, care and concern they showed our beloved Fred. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 15 at Evangelical Free Church of Canada, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd., beginning at 1:30 p.m. Guests are invited to join the family for a luncheon in the same location immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Winnipeg Branch, 102 - 310 Broadway, in Winnipeg, R3C 0S6.
