Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARETE KIRBY Peacefully with family at her side, Margarete Kirby passed away on December 10, 2004 at the age of 80. Margarete was born December 23, 1923 in Hernersfeld, Ukraine, one of ten children. She immigrated to Canada in 1948 as a young widow with her two small sons and settled in Winnipeg. Like many war-torn families, Margarete lost contact with her family in Ukraine and Russia until after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. In 1992 she was able to reunite with four of her sisters (Rosa, Lydia, Eleanor and Katherine) in Germany. A few years later her youngest brother Edward travelled to Winnipeg to spend some time with the sister he hadn't seen in over 50 years. Margarete is survived by and will be sadly missed by her children, John Banewski (Helen), Mea Ramm (Sid), Vea Scollan (John), Bonny Gee and Donna Kirby, (Phil); her stepchildren, Keith Kirby (Sharon) and Barbara Bergmann (Jim); her grandchildren, Jere, Scott, John, Steven and Christine Banewski, Alan Ramm, Lori Hoskins, Kerri Murphy, Scott and Marnie Bergmann, Darren and Allisa Kirby; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, Nathan, Zackery, Jersey, Cassandra, Tyler, Pyper and Trinity. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Gladys Banewski; her longtime friends, Louise Corsaro and Amy Rabichuk and her extended family in Germany. Margarete was predeceased by her husband, James Kirby, her son William Banewski and her granddaughter Kathryn Ramm. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of 4W, Deer Lodge Centre, for the care and kindness shown to our mother. In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A graveside interment with family and friends will occur at a later date at Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of cards and flowers the family requests that donations be made to Manitoba Lung Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
