JAMES VACLAC (JIM) MACHOVEC 1930 - 1999 Following a short illness, at the age of 69, Jim Machovec went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, September 3, 1999. He is survived by his loving family, his dear wife Elsie; his precious children, Karen of Toronto and Rodney (daughter-in-law Jennifer Kasian) of Winnipeg. Also, he leaves to mourn his loving mother-in-law Rosa Moravec of Heritage Lodge of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Bob of Calgary and Karel of the Czech Republic. He is survived by his brothers, Jan of Calgary, Joe (Anne) of Langley, B.C.; and extended family in Canada and the Czech Republic. Jim Machovec was born on July 19, 1930 and was the second son of Jan and Marie Machovec in the town of Zahorcice in Southwestern Czech Republic. Jim worked as a professional musician for the Air Command Band of the R.C.A.F. for 27 years. After retiring he continued to be very active musically. He was a member of the Winnipeg Pops Orchestra and Calvary Temple Music Ministry. As well, he participated annually at Folklorama, performing at the German and Czech pavilions. Jim also taught clarinet and saxophone throughout his life. Jim was an active member of the Czech-Slovak Association of Canada. He was a faithful father, loving husband and a good friend. He will be deeply missed by many. A Prayer Service will be held tonight, Tuesday, September 7 at 8:00 p.m., at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave St., room 100 in the Argue Building. A Funeral Service will be held at Calvary Temple in the main sanctuary on Wednesday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m, with Pastor Bruce Martin and Rev. H.H. Barber officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to service. After, there will be a brief reception before the interment at the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Calvary Temple Radio/T.V. Ministry or the Billy Graham Association will be gratefully appreciated.
