BETTY HELEN TOEWS Betty Helen Toews passed away peacefully on September 8, 1999 at the Deer Lodge Centre after a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Betty is survived by her mother Maria Toews; her brothers, John (Linda), Gary (Evelyn), Bill (Margaret) and Alvin, as well as her nieces and nephews, Dean (Chantelle), Kevin, Shannon, Robin, Greg, Stacey, Amber, Kezia and Mila. She also leaves to remember her life many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as numerous friends. She was predeceased by her father John Toews on August 1, 1999. Betty was born on July 7, 1959 in Winnipeg and spent all but the last few years of her life in North Kildonan. She attended North Kildonan Mennonite Church and over the years was involved in many activities such as choir, Pioneer Girls and the Pal Program. She also spent many happy times in the summer attending and working at Camp Arnes and later at the cottage near Gimli. Betty attended Princess Margaret, MBCI and River East Collegiate during her school years. She also held several different and varied jobs and was employed by companies such as Reimer Express, Monarch Life and most recently Ar-Cor. Betty enjoyed travelling and her trips included Europe, Hawaii, Venezuela and the Maritimes. Throughout her life Bettys outgoing personality, compassionate heart and easy smile earned her many friends. Betty had a strong faith in God that helped her cope with the debilitating effects of her illness. Despite everything, she had a positive outlook and never seemed to give up. The family would like to thank Deer Lodge Centre, 5W, for their care of Betty during the last two years. A viewing will be held at Klassen Funeral Chapel on Sunday, September 12 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street. Viewing prior to service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4th floor, 141 Bannatyne Avenue, Winnipeg, MB or to the Camp Arnes Campership Program, 1151 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1L5.
