AUGUST SAMUEL EYJOLFSON On September 7, 1999, August (Gusti) Eyjolfson passed away peacefully at the Elizabeth M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB at the age of 91. Gusti was born in Iceland in 1908 and came to Canada in 1910, where he grew up and went to school at Asham Point. Due to the premature death of both his parents, he was raised by Fred and Helga Klein. As a young man, he fished on Lake Manitoba with his brothers, Ragnar and Mike. In 1936 he married Lilla Lundstrom. They fished and ranched on Garden Island until 1944 when they moved to Steep Rock so Terry and Merle could attend school. He ranched there with Terry and Joyce until his retirement. Gusti and Lilla then did some travelling and for several years spent winters in Vancouver and summers in Steep Rock. Then they moved permanently to Winnipeg. Gustis last 4 months were spent in Eriksdale Care Home, where he received excellent care. He will be greatly missed by his son Terry (Joyce) daughter Merle (Stan) granddaughters, Tracy (Brian), Leanne and Susan; grandsons, Wayne (Brenda), Michael and great grandson Gerald; also a sister Alla Eyjolfsdottur. Gusti was predeceased by his wife Elna (Lilla) in June 1993 and by his brothers, Ragnar and Mike and a sister Betty. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13 at the Steep Rock Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Interment to follow in the Faulkner Cemetery. It is with Gustis wishes, that his wife Lillas cremains will be buried with him at the Faulkner Cemetery. Honourary Pallbearers are Steve Bednarek, Alfred Klein, Erik Hjartarson, Kris Snidal, Barry Thornson, Raymond Thornson and Victor Lundstrom. Active pallbearers are Wayne Eyjolfson, Brian Turcotte, Jim Shiells, Dean Shiells, Michael Eyjolfson and Eddie Lundstrom.
