CYRIL NAMUR (BLONDIE) HETHERINGTON It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our Father, Cyril Hetherington, on Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at the age of 85. To cherish his memory he leaves his daughters, Denise Hetherington, Colleen Sawatzky (Karl), Jill Mistelbacher (Ken) and son Tom Hetherington (Char) nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dad was born in Carlisle, England in 1914. At the age of 14 he started work as a black smith and became a master of his craft. He was a Sergeant in the R.A.F. and served from 1939 to 1947 in Europe and the Middle East during the Second World War. After the war Dad settled in Winnipeg and worked at the CNR until his retirement in 1972. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43 for 26 years. Dad enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He made many trips across Canada to visit his daughters and always enjoyed his trips back to England to visit his family and best friends and neighbour Jim and Guy. He always said he was the only person he knew who could watch the grass grow. We would like to thank the nursing staff of Seven Oaks Hospital, 5th floor, U7 for their care and compassion, Thorvaldson Care Home staff with special thanks to Pat. Cremation has taken place as per Dads wishes and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. Rev. Gordon Shields will officiate. Reception to follow at Green Acres. Private interment be scheduled at a later date. Green Acres Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements, 222-3241.
