DIEDRICH HENRY LOEWEN 1910 - 1999 Diedrich Henry was born February 9, 1910 in Waldeck, Saskatchewan to Henry and Katherine Loewen. Diedrich passed away on August 25, 1999 after a brief stay in M.S.A. Hospital, Abbotsford, BC. He had three sisters and three brothers. The family moved to Altona in 1919. Dad attended school in Altona, and worked on a farm before being hired by Rhineland Consumers Co-op in 1936 as a truck driver, an accountant, then manager. He enjoyed hockey, softball, curling and tennis. In church he was active by singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School for 26 years, acting as church treasurer for ten years and deacon for six years. He was instrumental in starting Altonas first Credit Union and became the treasurer. He was vice-president of Altona Co-op Board and was trustee for the Altona School Board. On June 18, 1939 Diedrich married Helena Friesen and they were blessed with four children, Myrna, Gladys, Donald and Irvin. Donald predeceased his father in 1991. He retired from the Co-op to begin Loewen Insurance in 1966, which he sold to his two sons in 1979, when they moved to Clearbrook, BC. He treasured the congregation and fellowship of Olivet Mennonite Church. He is survived by his wife Lena; children, Myrna (Marco) of Richmond, Gladys (Roy) of Victoria and Irvin (Tammy) of Altona, MB; grandchildren, Derrin, Kevin, Aaron, Christopher Berera, Steven and Holly Loewen, Alexander and Nicole Loewen. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Olivet Mennonite Church, 2630 Langdon Street. Interment followed in Maclure Cemetery. Memorial donations to M.C.C. will be gratefully accepted. Woodlawn Funeral Home of Abbotsford was in care of the arrangements. A memorial service will be be held in the Altona Bergthaler Church, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. in Altona, Manitoba.
