ADELAIDE WASSERMAN Adelaide Wasserman, cherished mother, grandmother and mother-in-law passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Foothills Hospital on September 4, 1999 at the age of 89. She was predeceased by Al, her loving husband of 52 years; her sister and two brothers. Her children, Marcia (Don) Cooper of Calgary, David (Lynn) Wasserman of Edmonton, and Karen (Sam) Steindal of Winnipeg will sadly miss this gregarious, strong and independent woman. Also missing her are her grandchildren, Ashley and Kelsey Cooper and Adam and Lyndsey Wasserman; her brother-in-law Teunis Mulder of Marchand, MB; sister-in-law Ada den Boer von Egmond of Holland and numerous nieces and nephews. Adelaide was born in Holland in 1910. While working as a midwife during the Second World War, she met husband Al who was stationed in Holland with the Canadian Army. She came to Canada as a Dutch war bride in 1946 and joined Al in Birch River, MB, where they ran a general store for 16 years. Her spirit of adventure led her to take numerous trips with her children camping and exploring the National Parks in the United States while Al tended the store. With her warm heart and welcoming nature, Addie was known as Moeder (mother) to family and numerous friends. Addie and Al sold the store in 1962 and retired to Calgary. They spent many winters in their motorhome as snowbirds in Palm Springs. They spent many summers in Summerland BC, camping with their children and grandchildren. Addies favourite pastimes included, knitting and crocheting clothing for her family and friends, playing cards, swimming, walking and watching curling at the Calgary Winter Club. During her husband Als illness, she spent her days helping to care for him at the Fanning Centre. The family would like to thank Dr. Lindy Murphy and the staff of Nursing Unit 72 at the Foothills Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion during Addies brief illness. Following a private family service, Addie was interred in the Field of Honour at Queens Park Cemetery. HERITAGE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Having just reconnected with some people from my childhood years in Swan River, I googled the Wasserman family, whom I also remembered. While I am sad to learn of the passing of Adelaide and Al, I am glad to hear they had so many happy years together. I have warm memories of getting together a couple of times with the family. My best wishes to Marcia, David, Karen and their families. - Posted by: Linda Litwack (Daughter of old friends from the 1950s) on: Feb 20, 2017
