SIGRID ROBERTA MAGNUSSON After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends, Roberta died Saturday, September 11, 1999 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli. Roberta was born in Gimli, MB on January 25, 1952. She is predeceased by her father Robert and survived by her mother Barbara; brothers, Glenn (friend Janice), Gary (Gayle), Grant, Dale (Sandra), Randy (Delori) nieces and nephews, Corley, Allison, Trevor, Dustin, Carmen, Kaiden and Kylan. Roberta was raised in Gimli and lived in Vancouver and Montreal before settling in Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, she worked as a pharmacists assistant, then at the Winnipeg Tribune. Upon the closure of the Tribune in 1980, she moved to Edmonton to work for the Edmonton Journal. Eventually, she left the Journal to find her life fulfilment at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. It was here that Roberta fostered her love of music while the folks festival staff became like family. Roberta loved to travel. She toured Europe with her friend Maureen. She also took great pride in her hobby, photography. Roberta also had a gift for making pottery. Her pieces became treasured gifts for friends and family. She took great pride in and loved very much her home, Gimli, and her family. She was always protective of and bragging about her little brothers. Roberta loved children and also bragged about her nieces and nephews and the children of her close friends. She was a loving and devoted daughter. Anyone who has ever met Roberta knows that her way of life was unlike anyone elses. She had a tremendously positive attitude and a wonderful sense of humour. She was independent and very courageous, easygoing, loving, kind, and gentle. Most of all Roberta was giving. She was very unselfish and always thought of others before herself. Roberta cherished the priceless things in life and gave little value to material objects. She had a passion for life and lived every moment of hers to the fullest. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the following people, Dr. Chapnick, the nurses and staff at the Johnson Memorial Hospital, Brenda Krulicki, and special friends, Maureen, Evelyn, Lorie and Terry, Sandy and Vince, and Jane, all of whom have been very giving. Honourary pallbearers are Evelyn Goodman, Terry Wickham, Lorie Miseck, Maureen Arnason, Jane Arnold, and Sandi Guthro. There will be a service at Gimli Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor George Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
