W. JANE BANCROFT, Ph.D. Passed away September 13, 1999, in her 62nd year, at Grace Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved mother, Jean in Winnipeg; her brother Michael and sister-in-law Joan, in Saskatoon; nephew David and niece Catherine, in London, ON; favourite Aunt Eileen, in Regina; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jane was born in Saskatoon and educated in Winnipeg at Kelvin High School and the University of Manitoba, before going to the Sorbonne and then Harvard for her higher degrees. She has taught French for over 30 years at the University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus), and published many articles on French literature, music, education, foreign language teaching and accelerated learning. Her life work "Suggestopedia and Language Aquisition" was very recently published by Gordon and Breach. Cremation has taken place. The Memorial Service was held in the Sanctuary at Christ Church Deer Park Anglican Church, 1570 Yonge St. at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17. Rev. Dr. R. Timothy E. Elliott and Joan Bancroft officiated. Bedford Funeral Home is taking care of arrangements. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the University of Toronto Jane Bancroft Scholarship Fund, Office of Advancement, University of Toronto at Scarborough, 1265 Military Trail, Scarborough, ON M1C 1A4 would be appreciated. A private committal service will be held at St. Aidans Anglican Church, Winnipeg, on Tuesday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m.
