WALTER STOKES Peacefully, on Saturday, September 18, 1999, Walter Stokes passed away at Oakview Place, at the age of 87. Left to mourn is wife Joanna; son Leonard and wife Theresa; grandchildren, Gail and husband Jorge, Richard, and Karen; great- grandchildren, Jorey, Kristopher, Nicholas, and Hayden and sister Eliza. Walter was born in Cape Freels, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland and lived most of his life there and then in St. Johns, Newfoundland moving to Winnipeg in 1990. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with Rev. Debra Schweyer officiating, with a visitation an hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Winnipeg, 120 Donald Street, Wpg, MB R3C 4G2. The family wish to thank all the staff of Oakview Place who looked after Dad. God saw you getting weary, and a cure was not to be. He knew that you were suffering, so He wrapped you in His loving arms, and He closed your weary eyes.
