Date of Passing: Sep 09, 1999
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYNN FRANCES LOEWEN (nee FELLOWES) With deep sadness we announce the passing on September 9, 1999, of Evelynn Loewen, widow of Al Loewen and Marsh Phimister, beloved mother of Michael (Patricia) Loewen and Melisa (Christopher) Chipman, cherished grandmother of Angela, Ashleigh and Andrew. She will be sadly missed by her sister Ferne (Arnie) Cozart, nephews Derrin and Randy (Michele) Cozart, and numerous friends. Evelynn was an art educator for over forty years, both as a faculty member at the University of Manitoba and as an adult art Director for St. Boniface School Division and the University of Manitoba Continuing Education. She was Director and Teacher of the Loewen School of Art. In 1967 she was Resident Artist at Minaki Lodge, Ontario, and in 1976 and 1977 was Assistant Manager and Evening Manager at Minaki Lodge. Evelynn was associated with the travel industry for over 30 years. In the 70s she was a free-lance writer for the Winnipeg Free Press, writing of her travel experiences abroad. She was General Manager and Owner of Intercontinental Coordinators, and most recently was also a consultant for Canada One Travel in Winnipeg. She travelled extensively throughout the world, her latest adventures being a safari in Africa this past February and a cruise up the Nile in 1998. Evelynn was a member of the Heather Curling Club, the Scottish Country Dance Society, President of the Norwood Lawn Bowling Association and a former member of Quota Intl. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, and a volunteer member of the Manitoba Theatre Centre, the Warehouse Theatre, the Fantasy Theatre for Children and The Fringe. Evelynn was a devoted mother and her family was always first and foremost in her life. She doted on her grandchildren, and spoiled them with gifts in triplicate on every visit. Grandma also gave the biggest and best hugs. Evelynn was gifted with the ability to turn any happening into a party; however Christmas Eve was particularly memorable for many years. Her outgoing and effervescent personality was infectious, yet coupled with a compassionate and caring nature. The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of her many friends especially in the past months, and in particular the "Little Pigs" with whom she had the most laughs and whose company she enjoyed so much. We also extend our thanks to Dr. M. Davey. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Wpg., R2H 2A6, or a charity of choice.
