GEORGE A. BRAUN Peacefully, at the age of 90, on September 11, 1999, at the Ebenezer Home in Altona. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Mourning the loss of their father and grandfather are Albert (Marlene Epp) of Winnipeg, their daughter Lisa, and son Carl (Trish Hedlund) Kenneth (Marianne Kaethler) of Altona, and their daughters Monica and Teresa; Rosella (Herman Schroeder) of Carp, Ontario, and their daughter Lori; Ronald "Joe" (Lois Nickel) of Altona; and Viola (Derek Fox) of Hairy Hill, Alberta, and their daughters, Taneen (Andrew Rudyk) and Anya (Scott Langkow). He is survived also by four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Nettie in 1991, and by all of his brothers and sisters. George was the youngest of 14 children born to Abram and Anna (Falk) at Eigengrund, Manitoba, near Altona. He farmed with his father and brothers, and married Nettie Dych of Chortitz, Manitoba, in 1936, at which time he and his wife were accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church. He continued to farm in the Kleinstadt area, but during the winters, from 1944-1964, he taught at the Elim Bible School in Altona, where he was highly respected by staff and students. As well as teaching, farming, and raising a family, George served as a visiting lay preacher for various Mennonite churches in southern Manitoba, where he enjoyed meeting and talking with old friends and new acquaintances. He will be remembered by all who knew him for the twinkle in his eyes, his ready smile, his strong principles, his gentleness, the unfailing kindness and generosity of his spirit, and above all, his unwavering faith in and love of God. Funeral services will be held at the Altona Bergthaler Church, on Wednesday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons, or to the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna, Manitoba. Viewing will be held at Wiebe Funeral Home, Altona on Monday, September 13 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service.
