FRANCES S. REGIER Sunday, my best friend Frances has gone before and has left me for a little while! With sorrow in our hearts we announce the passing of our friend Frances S. Regier (nee Shelby) on Sunday morning, September 12, 1999. Frances was born on July 7, 1940 in Vita, MB, a daughter to Melvin (Mike) and Violet Shelby of Arnaud, MB. She attended grade school at the rural one room North Star School and high school at Arnaud. After a couple of years working as a teller in the Bank of Montreal main branch in Winnipeg, Frances married a school class mate and neighbour, George Regier in 1959 and together they raised a son George Melvin and a daughter Sherri May, both of whom now reside in Seattle Washington. Frances often said that "the biggest accomplishment in my life was the two children we raised". Subsequently, son George had a daughter Danielle and a son Adam, Frances two grandchildren. Frances supported her husband George in his 40 year career in the electrical engineering consulting field. After son George and daughter Sherri completed high school, Frances took a position as school bus driver for the Transcona Springfield School Division for 13 years. Together Frances and George travelled a great deal. In the 1980s business related technical society work took them to many major cities in the United States and Canada. Summer vacations, and since Georges retirement in 1997, winters were spent in a truck camper and more recently in a motorhome travelling Canada and the United States. For four years, beginning in 1992, Frances accompanied her husband George on resident engineering assignments in the West African countries of Nigeria and Ghana. Frances laughter and wit will be missed by many! The immediate family, especially her father Melvin (Mike) Shelby; brothers, Robert (Bob) Shelby with wife Eileen and Ronald (Ron) Shelby with partner Bonnie; sister Myrna with husband Lance Vanbeselaere; brother-in-law Alvin Regier with wife Hilda, along with nieces and nephews. Final "good-byes" will be at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road, five minutes past the Mint, on Friday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will precede the Memorial Service and the date and place of the interment is deferred.
