FLORENCE MARTIN On September 14, 1999 at the Betel Home, Selkirk, Mrs. Florence Martin age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Florence leaves to mourn her two sons, Wilfred (Lois), Lloyd (Lois) and daughter-in-law Roberta; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brother Bob Scramstad and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband James in 1961; son Ralph in 1988; brothers, Oscar, Gustave, Elmer, Clarence, Harry and Otto; sisters, Ella Holland, Alice Christie and Mary Johnstone. Florence was born on February 24, 1903 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Otto and Ida Scramstad. She received her education in the Starbuck area, later moving to East Selkirk where she married. Florence and her husband James farmed until 1956 retiring to Selkirk, MB. She was an active member of the St. Clements, St. Andrews Agricultural Society for over 35 years, having served as a director. She was also an active member of the McBeth Presbyterian Church having served in various positions of the Ladies Aide. Later, she was also a member of the Knox Presbyterian Missionary Society. Florence had a genuine love for her community and participated actively. Her remaining years were spent living in the Lions Centre and Betel Home. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline St., with the Rev. John Hogerwaard officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined, those so wishing may contribute in her memory to the Manitoba Cancer Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9 or the Betel Home Foundation, 212 Manchester, Selkirk, MB R1A 0B6. Her family wishes to thank the nurses, staff and volunteers at the Betel Home for their care and kindness, during Florences stay. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
