ARTHUR MILTON "SCOTTY" SHOULTS Arthur Milton "Scotty" Shoults, 83, passed away on September 14, 1999 at his home in Victoria, BC. He was born November 12, 1915 in Winnipeg where he attended Calvin High School. In 1936 he graduated with a degree in English from the University of Manitoba. In 1938 he graduated from Harvard Business School. He taught business administration at Sir George Williams and took a year of pre-medicine at McGill University. During the Second World War he was stationed in Ottawa as an officer in the Navy. His first business venture after the War was distributing Bendix home appliances across Canada. In 1948 he started working for the James Lovick Advertising Agency where he managed the Calgary and Edmonton offices. In 1963 he acquired the agency and moved the head office to Toronto from Vancouver. For two years he was president of the CDN Institute of Advertising. During this time he was on the board of Consumers Gas Company, Home Oil and Bannister Pipeline. He was also a member of the Rosedale Golf and Country Club, Granite Club, Calgary Ranchmens Club, Calgary Golf and Country Club and the Petroleum Club. He was also a member and fundraiser for the Opera Society in Toronto. With a desire to move back to western Canada he sold his interest in Baker Lovick, BBDO (formerly James Lovick) in 1971 and remained on the board until 1973. In 1968 he acquired Chester Tool Supply of Calgary. In 1971 he bought Bruce Robinson Electric and CHQT Radio Station. In 1982 he acquired Gescan (General Electric-Western Canadian Wholesale Division). It was 1990 before he sold these businesses and retired. His most recent memberships included the Vancouver Club, Shaughnessy Golf Club, Eldorado Golf Club of Indian Wells, California and the Victoria Golf Club. Scotty had a strong belief in promoting education and supported such institutions as Waterloo University, Pearson College and the University of Victoria. His wife, Mary, whom he met in Montreal and married February 3, 1944 in Ottawa, predeceased him. He is survived by his children, Anne Waterhouse of Mercer Island, WA, Tom Shoults and Joan Shoults of Victoria; grandchildren, David and Craig Waterhouse and Katherine Shoults. A special note of thanks to Scottys caregivers and friends who contributed to his well-being in his latter years. Service will be held at McCall Bros.
