FANNY DORFMAN With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Fanny Dorfman. She was born March 17, 1905 and married Jack Dorfman December 29, 1926. She was predeceased by her son Harold and her husband Jack and by her parents, David and Sonia Spivak; her brothers, Bill, Phil and Malick and her sister Reb (Weidman). She is survived by her sisters, Bessie (Peikoff) of Las Vegas and Mary (Robinson) of Winnipeg. After her marriage, she and her husband Jack settled and worked together in the small towns of Tomkins and Herbert, Saskatchewan where they became active members of the community and raised their son Harold. They moved from Herbert, Saskatchewan to Portage la Prairie in 1945-6, then settled back in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and returned to Winnipeg in 1962. Fanny Dorfman was brought up in an atmosphere in which all the old-fashioned characteristics of the joy of living and devotion to family were exhibited. These qualities were passed on to all of her parents children. Fanny exhibited in her life that same overwhelming intensity of love and generosity of spirit. Fanny and her husband Jack, created a life together, woven in their own deep attachment to one another and their sharing which was uniquely precious to them. Fanny Dorfman was a friend to all, a loving and caring person to her immediate and extended family, a person who truly understood her surroundings, was passionate about life, and handled herself with grace and charm. She was revered by her nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was always interested and concerned about their personal lives. She never had a bad word to say about anybody. She was generous in her thinking and she looked for and saw the best in everyone she knew. She was admired and treasured by so many. She was a remarkable person. Even though Fanny and Jack were a distance from the family in Winnipeg, their bonds of attachment to their brothers and sisters families remained strong. After the passing of her son, Fannys spirit was never weakened. Her unfailing acute sense of reality and her unchallenged faith and love and generosity were transferred to her nephews and nieces, and later on, her grand nephews and grand nieces. They became Fannys and Jack Dorfmans family and she showered on all of them unbridled love and attention. She became interested in everything they were doing. Fanny was an unpretentious, generous and elegant person with a zest for life. She carried on bravely with the loss of her son and her husband, both of whom she adored. She was a serene and positive presence in all of our lives. She stood by and always maintained her allegiance to her family and friends and the traditions she was raised in. She was a sweet person who had an extraordinary gift. Fanny Dorfman will be missed and she will never be forgotten. Honorary pallbearers were Gordon McKinnon, Dr. Harold Spivak and Sidney Spivak. Active pallbearers were Daniel Braker, Frank Spivak, Bob Robinson, Lorne Weidman, Jim Weidman and Lorne Colish.

Family and friends were showered by gifts both before and after her death , she truly was a gracious and generous person, one such gift was a painting of a boy eating a slice of watermelon given to Doreen Spivak Breffitt . Sadly Doreen has passed 26 years to the day that her husband Mervin Breffitt did on October 26 2015 . The name Harold in my husbands name is for great aunt Fanny's only child ,as Harold and Mervin were the best of friends. - Posted by: Janet Breffitt FHOLSS (great niece by marrIage to Daniel Harold Spivak Breffitt ) on: Dec 06, 2015
