ROBERT ALFRED LAIDLAW Peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 19, 1999 at Concordia Hospital with his family at his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Peggy; and his children, Bob (Mo), Gary (Lynne), Janis (Ray) grandchildren, David (Dineen), Ross (Tyra), Karla (Richard), Craig (Laura), Tanis, Kevin (Jennifer) and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Joshua. Alf was born in Winnipeg, August 29, 1918 lived most of his life in Elmwood and East Kildonan. He was an ardent sportsman in his younger years, very competitive, he loved his lacrosse, football, hockey and his many curling years at Elmwood Curling Club. He spent his war years in the army and R.C.A.F. He was Past Master of the Red River Lodge No. 172, AF & AM GRM Masonic Lodge also a former member of the Scottish Rites, Khartum Temple, Elmwood Legion No. 9 and North West Commercial travellers. He was a salesman most of his life retiring as Institutional Sales Manager of Cambra Foods. He finished his career in retirement with Pierce National and held his license until the age of 80. Alf and Peg went for their honeymoon to Grand Beach in 1940. He bought a family cottage in 1941 and spent every summer there where Alfs Happy Hours started at 3:30 p.m. They spent their winters in Hawaii, Florida, Texas and for the last 15 years in Palm Springs, California. His greatest love and pride was his family and his two precious pussycats, Princess and Gucci. As proud as he was of his family we were all proud to call him Dad, Grampa and Gramps. He walked through life making friends at every turn doing his best to add some happiness to their lives. Alf will be sadly missed by all his family, relatives and many friends. Happy to Meet Sorry to Part Happy to meet Again Those we love dont go away They walk beside us every day The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of N3 West and N2 West of Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion and true understanding. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire donations may be made in Alfs memory to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Cremation has taken place, interment will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel; 338-0331.
