CHARLES R. McKAY SR. It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Charles McKay Sr., on September 12, 1999. He was predeceased by his mother Maggie in 1992. He leaves to mourn his loving partner, wife and best friend Doreen; three sons, Kenneth (Vivian), Charles Jr. (Melody), and Warren (Shirley) grandchildren, Trevor, Marlon; Peyton, Tyler and Pryia; father George Sr.; brothers, Gordon (Vivian), George Jr. (Irene), Clifford (Valerie), Frederick (Lucille), Ivan, William (Maureen) sisters, Georgina Nepinak (James), Joanne Richard (Walter), Margaret Thompson (Morris), Justina Keewatin (Kenneth), Gloria, and Mary McKay (Larrie Head) many aunts, uncles and numerous extended family members and friends. Born on August 5, 1946, Charles lived in Pine Creek all of his life. He received his education at Pine Creek Residential School where he completed Grade 8. After a courageous battle with Diabetes, Charles came to meet many accomplishments in his life. As a young man Charles fished Lake Winnipegosis with the guidance of his father George Sr. He then went on to become Band Manager for the Pine Creek First Nation. He was elected Councillor and held the Education Portfolio for a number of years. His heavy involvement in education assisted in the singing of Local Control for the Pine Creek First Nation, which in turn formed the Pine Creek Education Authority in 1984. Shortly thereafter he was hired as Director of Education where he was employed until his death. Charles was unable to complete his education during his younger years, but went on to complete a two year Management of Community Economic and Organization Development diploma at U. of M. in June, 1992, plus many other certificates and recognitions to help increase his knowledge in the workplace. His hobbies included fastball, hockey, fishing, hunting and VLTs where he would rise to the challenge. His encouragement to many of us to complete our education will forever be remembered and cherished. Funeral service was held on Saturday, September 18, from the Camperville Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Roman Catholic Church. Fr. Leo Fernandes officiated and interment followed in the parish cemetery. All of Charles friends may consider themselves as honourary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Warren Mckay, Charles McKay Jr., George McKay, Gordon McKay, Clifford McKay, Ivan McKay, Fred McKay and William McKay. The Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service had care of the arrangements. A SON, A BROTHER, A HUSBAND, A DAD When the wind blows your way Remember me like I was that day, Happy as a son, a brother, a husband, a dad. The seasons they say mark a change in life, As the geese fly, and the nets are pulled I know in my heart that everything is alright. These things I loved and in my life I held As a son, a brother, a husband, a dad. Someday we will come to understand That there are things that bring us together God and His helping hand and Like the Eagle who loses a feather, I was a son, a brother, a husband, a dad. My road was hard and sometimes tough But, remember the good times and the laughter. Maybe it was time, I had had enough. In our hearts we will always be together, and remember As your son, your brother, your husband, your dad. By Tina
