Loving husband of Leola (nee Despins) dear father of Michelle Aitkenhead and her husband Phil Cyrenne of Winnipeg, Mark Aitkenhead of Yellowknife, N.W.T., Jill Aitkenhead of Sydney, B.C., Kevin Aitkenhead, Valerie and her husband Jesse Schierholtz of Kitchener, Ont. Loving grandfather of Tyler, Nicolas, Alex, Danielle, Nicole and Thomas. He will be forever loved and remembered by his mother Elizabeth Jane Aitkenhead of Winnipeg; brothers and sisters, Connie and her husband Ashley Belanger, Harold Aitkenhead and his wife Hildur, Joyce and her husband Richard Gittens, Carol and her husband Eugene Bendera, James Aitkenhead and Ross Aitkenhead and his wife Connie, all of Winnipeg. He will be fondly remembered by Maria Aitkenhead and Shirley Arden. He was predeceased by his father James Aitkenhead. Family was very important to Bill and he cared for his extended family with great affection, including the Despins family, his nieces and nephews and many other relatives in Canada and Great Britain. Bill was a very active member of the community. He was the retired Regional Vice President, Corporate Banking, Royal Bank of Canada, a past president of the Rotary Club of Kitchener, a member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club and St. Michaels R.C. Church. He loved golfing, skiing, curling, running, gardening and music. A funeral mass was held at St. Michaels R.C. Church, University Avenue West in Waterloo on Wednesday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. James Malone officiating. For Bills friends in Manitoba, a memorial mass will be held at St. Ignatius R.C. Church in Winnipeg on Saturday, September 25 at 9:30 a.m. His cremated remains will be buried at Whitemouth Cemetery on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the Whitemouth Community Hall. Donations to the Rotary Childrens Centre, 500 Hallmark Dr., Waterloo, ON N2K 3P5, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital who gave such loving and compassionate care to Bill during the past month. Bill was admired and respected by everyone who knew him. His family and friends will miss his gentle leadership, counsel and love of life. The Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, ON, N2J 1P7 (519-745-8445) assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
