MARIE PAPPEL Peacefully on Saturday, September 18, 1999 at the Manitoba Developmental Centre, Marie Pappel, a longtime resident of the Manitoba Developmental Centre, passed away at the age of 91 years. Funeral service will be held at the Aspen Worship Centre, Manitoba Developmental Centre, Portage la Prairie, on Thursday, September 23 at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Ron Siemens officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Marie was born on October 18, 1907 at Beausejour, Man. She resided near Emerson, Man., with her grandparents until 1942 when she became a resident of the Manitoba Developmental Centre. The Centre became her home for over 56 years and the staff became her adopted family. In her earlier years, Marie had a mischievous nature and enjoyed teasing and playing tricks on her friends, especially the staff. Later she enjoyed quiet times, sitting with staff members and became fond of stuffed toys and animals. Marie leaves no known family to mourn her passing except her adopted family at the Manitoba Developmental Centre, who will sadly miss her.
