Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD JOHN VAN DYK On Saturday, September 18, 1999, Richard John van Dyk, our beloved son and brother passed away at the age of 36. Richard was born on September 27, 1962 in Winnipeg. He grew up in East Kildonan, was a student at St. Alphonsus and Munroe Jr. High schools and a graduate of Kildonan East High School. He was employed with Codville Company for a number of years and more recently with Jostens Canada Ltd. Richard loved hockey and in his formative years played goalie on many Bronx Park Community Club teams. He won trophies for badminton and target shooting. In his teens he developed a life-long passion for bikes. An avid cycler, his favourite route for many years was cycling to Birds Hill and back. Richard was preceded in death by his father Richard Jerry Kustra on May 2, 1997; grandfather Cornelis van Dyk on February 3, 1993 and his cousin Corrie Rodney van Dyk on July 7, 1992. Left to mourn his loss and to cherish memories of the good times are his mother Gerri van Dyk; sister Caroline (Brad Townsend) brother Michael; grandmother Gerardina van Dyk; uncle Corrie (Heather Lawson) cousin Terry; and Nancy; all of Winnipeg. Also uncle Birdie (Pam Daniels) of the Netherlands. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 24 at Neil Bardal Funeral Home, 984 Portage Ave. at Aubrey St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6.
