Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER DOUGLAS JONES May 2, 1919 - September 20, 1999 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Walter Douglas Jones. Walter was predeceased by his wife of 325 years, Muriel in 1988 and his son Brian Jones in 1998 and his brothers and sisters that have gone before him. He will be sadly missed by his sons, Gary (Gladys), Darcy (Jamie) and his daughter Deanna (Kurt) Roche. He will also be sadly missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his surviving sisters, Edie and Nora. Also by many foster children and those he treated as family. Walter was born in Carlyle, Sask., youngest of 14. The family moved to Winnipeg and he grew up in the Sturgeon Creek area where he developed his love for golf, a game which he enjoyed throughout his life. Walter served in the Second World War with PPCLI. After the war he worked at Crescent Creamery and it was during this time he met his wife Muriel and they raised their family and resided in St. Vital. In 1953 he joined the St. Vital Police Department, and in 1974 upon amalgamation he served as a Sergeant in District Five until his retirement in 1979. Walter was also an active member of the Three Pillars Masonic Lodge prior to his retirement. During his retirement he enjoyed his passion for golf by spending his winters in Mesa, Arizona and his summers as the jovial starter at the Southwood Golf and Country Club. Walt spent his last years enjoying times with his family and his loving companion Flo and his many friends and acquaintances who will cherish his memory. In keeping with Walts wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family service of interment. For those that wish to say a final farewell the family will be hosting an open house at the Southwood Golf and Country Club, 101 Markham Road on Monday, September 27 between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial tribute may do so to a charity of their choice or to the Southwood Millennium Fund.
