KATHLEEN KAY EDITH GILL (nee PUDDIFANT) March 5, 1921 - September 21, 1999 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt after a four month stay at Grace General Hospital. Kay was born in Headingley, Man. The family later moved to Warren. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in December, 1942 and was awarded the Battle of Britain medal, and has continued as an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the St. James Legion No. 4. She returned to Winnipegs West End to marry and raise a family. Many customers of the Paddock Restaurant will remember her 29 years of service. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, J. Harry Hank Gill; daughters, Linda (Aaron) Shnitka and Betty; sons, Jon (Susan) and Rick (Suzy), and grandchildren, Kathy, Dan, Jay, Joshua and Jeremy, all of Winnipeg. Also survived by brother Harry (Myrtle) Puddifant of Innisfail, Alta., and sisters, Dorothy (Vern) Sund of Woodlands, Man. and Jean (Bill) Forrester of Winnipeg, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Daisy Puddifant and brother John. We are very proud of Kays talent for baking, sewing and hand-made crafts, as recognized annually by the St. James Horticultural Society. Many adults and children have warm hands and feet because Kay loved to knit mittens and slippers, especially during her summers at the Whytewold cottage. The Childrens Hospital gratefully accepted her many donations of slippers, mitts and dolls. Sincere thanks to Dr. A.N. Schroeder and all the Grace staff for their care and compassion, especially those on 4 East. Major Bill Loveless, Salvation Army Chaplain of Grace General Hospital will officiate at a memorial service to be held Wednesday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. James Chapel of Leatherdale Gardiner, 1858 Portage Ave. at Collegiate, followed by a Celebration of Life at Bourkevale Community Centre, 100 Ferry Road South. Cremation has taken place and a private family service for interment at Woodlands is planned. Flowers are gratefully declined; however a donation to your favourite charity would be appreciated. MacKenzie Funeral Home in care of arrangements, Stonewall, 467-2525.
